DESCRIPTION:ASA recently had the honour of addressing the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements in Parliament. This important engagement allowed ASA to share insights into its mandate\, achievements\, and the critical role it plays in advancing innovative building technologies (IBTs) to support the delivery of sustainable human settlements in South Africa.\nAs a public entity of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI)\, ASA plays a vital role in evaluating and certifying non-standardised and innovative building products and systems\, ensuring they are fit-for-purpose\, safe\, and contribute meaningfully to the country’s infrastructure needs. \nASA’s presentation to the Portfolio Committee focused on: \n\nASA Mandate and Impact: Outlining ASA’s contribution to government priorities by certifying innovative construction products that accelerate housing delivery and infrastructure development.\nSupport for Human Settlements: Demonstrating how ASA-certified products and technologies are helping to build quality\, affordable\, and sustainable housing solutions for South African communities.\nChallenges and Opportunities: Discussing regulatory complexities\, resource constraints\, and the need for closer collaboration between innovation\, policy\, and procurement structures.\nFuture Outlook: Highlighting plans to enhance industry partnerships\, increase awareness of ASA’s certification services\, and further support the government’s drive toward resilient and integrated human settlement\n\nThe Portfolio Committee commended ASA for its continued work in the built environment and acknowledged the importance of innovation in addressing South Africa’s housing challenges. The Committee encouraged ASA to intensify its outreach to the industry and communities and to continue supporting the Department of Human Settlements in achieving its vision. \nASA remains committed to playing a strategic role in supporting government and private sector stakeholders with reliable certification and technical expertise. By promoting innovative building solutions\, ASA continues to contribute to safe\, affordable\, and sustainable infrastructure development across South Africa.

DESCRIPTION:Agrement South Africa Hosts Provincial Industry and Stakeholder Engagement Forum in Cape Town\nCentury City\, Cape Town – 27 June 2025\nAgrement South Africa (ASA)\, an entity of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI)\,\nsuccessfully convened its Provincial Industry and Stakeholder Engagement Forum at Century City\,\nCape Town on 27 June 2025. Held under the theme “Partnership for Technological Progress:\nInnovative Solutions for a Resilient Western Cape\,” the event brought together key government\nleaders\, built environment professionals\, and innovators to strengthen collaboration in advancing\nsustainable infrastructure solutions.\nThe forum was honoured by the presence of Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure\, Mr.\nSihle Zikalala\, who delivered the keynote address. He emphasised the vital role of partnerships and\ninnovation in reshaping the country’s infrastructure landscape. “We must work collectively across all\nspheres of government and the private sector to accelerate the adoption of alternative building\ntechnologies (ABTs) that address both housing backlogs and climate resilience\,” he said.\nAlso addressing the forum were Western Cape MEC for Infrastructure\, Mr. Tertuis Simmers\, and\nDeputy Mayor of the City of Cape Town\, Alderman Eddie Andrews\, who both echoed the call for\nintegrated solutions and highlighted the importance of inclusive development. Their remarks\nreinforced the provincial and municipal commitment to working with ASA and other stakeholders to\nmainstream innovative construction solutions.\nThe forum provided a platform for robust dialogue\, knowledge-sharing\, and networking among\nparticipants. ASA’s executive team led presentations on the agency’s certification processes\, quality\nassurance mechanisms\, and progress in facilitating the uptake of innovative building technologies\n(IBTs) in human settlements. The sessions encouraged constructive feedback and collaboration among\nmanufacturers\, built environment professionals\, academia\, and public sector role-players.\nIn addition to the main programme\, an exhibition space showcased ASA-certified products and\ntechnologies\, offering practical insights into how innovation is being applied to meet real-world\ninfrastructure challenges.\nASA CEO Mr. Richard Somanje applauded the enthusiastic engagement from all stakeholders and\nstressed the need for sustained momentum. “This forum is a call to action.
