The Eapro M Building Method is an upgradeable precast concrete building system which consists of:
precast and reinforced or prestressed concrete panels and special door and window panels which are bolted together;
- cast in situ concrete strip footings which may include wall panel holding-down anchor rods;
- conventional surface beds and floor screeds;
- conventional roof trusses, roof coverings, ceilings (if specified) and fibre-cement sheeting or shiplap board-clad gables;
- steel channels bolted to the tops of eaves and gable walls. Trusses are fixed with bolted mild steel brackets or welded cold-formed channel cleats to eaves wall channels.
The Eapro M building system can be upgraded by:
- painting external and internal walls;
- installing insulated or uninsulated ceilings;
- lining the rebated face of external and internal walls with gypsum plasterboard.
This Mantag certificate covers the use of the Eapro M Building System in selected areas in all climatic zones of Southern Africa for the erection of simple, single-storey buildings for the following uses:
- detached houses and ancillary free-standing buildings such as toilets
- non-residential school buildings (classrooms, cloakrooms, administration, assembly and storage facilities)
- primary health care centres, with a maximum floor area of 300 m2
Calculations show that dwellings smaller than 30 m2, which do not have ceilings and gypsum plasterboard lined walls will not meet Mantag thermal criteria. Such dwellings can therefore only be regarded as temporary shelters until they can be upgraded.
Mantag certificates are a distinct type of Agrément certificate, based on acceptable safety and health criteria for houses and related outbuildings, non-residential schools and primary health care centres in areas where the local authority is of the opinion that the type of construction is appropriate, given that in these areas it is of paramount importance that buildings be erected at the lowest possible cost.
If the conditions of this Mantag certificate are complied with, Agrément South Africa is of the opinion that the Eapro M building system will be fit-for-purpose, and can therefore be regarded as complying with the functional requirements related to safety and health contained in the National Building Regulations. In general, however, Mantag criteria permit a lesser level of performance than would be expected from buildings erected in accordance with the deemed-to-satisfy rules contained in SABS 0400-1990, The application of the National Building Regulations.
