Reappraisal No 1
The Panelcast Buildings system is an upgradable building system for the erection of single storey buildings. External walls are precast, prestressed concrete wall panels bearing on plinth beams that are cast into surface beds with thickened edges. Internal walls may be similar to external walls or may be constructed of concrete blocks or of gypsum plasterboard on timber framing. Roof coverings are conventional and lightweight, supported on braced timber trusses. Ceilings are installed in all buildings.
Upgrading can be:
- lining the Panelcast walls with gypsum plasterboard on battens or other suitable material and placing insulation material in the cavity
- insulating ceilings.
This certificate covers the use of the system in all climatic zones of Southern Africa for the erection of simple, single storey buildings for the following uses:
- detached houses, excluding small buildings with a floor area less than 30 m2 which have not been upgraded, and ancillary free-standing buildings such as toilets;
- non-residential school structures (classrooms, cloakrooms, administration, assembly and storage facilities);
- primary health-care facilities, with a maximum floor area of 300 m2.
