Building system for the erection of simple, single storey buildings in selected areas. Walls are constructed of loadbearing, treated timber poles planted in the ground; steel weldmesh is fixed to both sides of the poles and the space between filled with compacted clay/soil balls or broken bricks and mortar and finished on both sides with a sand:cement:lime plaster. Floors are of rammed earth or concrete. Profiled fibre-cement or galvanised steel roof sheet is fixed to timber rafters or trusses.
This certificate covers the use of the Zenzele Building System in selected areas in all climatic zones of Southern Africa for the erection of simple, single storey buildings for the following uses:
- detached houses and ancillary free-standing buildings such as toilets;
- non-residential school structures (classrooms, cloakrooms, administration, assembly and storage facilities);
- primary health-care facilities, with a maximum floor area of 300 m2.
