The Styrox Building System consist of:
- concrete raft foundations or conventional cast in situ concrete strip footings for perimeter walls and conventional cast in situ concrete strip footings or thickened surface beds under internal walls;
- superstructure walls which have an overall thickness of either 216 mm or, where greater acoustic privacy is required, 286 mm. They are constructed of interlocking hollow buildings units of expanded polystyrene (EPS) which act as permanent insulation and shuttering and are filled with cementitious material. Walls incorporate vertical reinforcement, precast lintels over openings, ring beams and roof holding-down anchors and are finished with 18 mm thick plaster;
- conventional roof construction which incorporates cross-bracing in the plane of the ceiling when specified dimensional limitations are exceeded;
conventional roof sheeting, or clay or concrete roof tiles.
